On June 12th, students, families, and neighbors attended the Grand Rapids Public School board meeting to advocate for a number of community budget priorities for the 2023-24 school year related to improving school food, transportation, air quality, staffing for schools in the Ottawa Hills feeder pattern, and supporting student mental health.
The district sent a response which is a significant win for people power, but more specificity around implementation timelines and funding allocations is needed, and the work isn't done!
Join the education justice team at The UCC office (413 Hall Street SE, Suite 1) this Tuesday, June 27th at 6pm for food, celebration and reflection, and to begin planning next steps in advocating for full adoption of the community budget demands. Learn more about this event.
